Pull up a chair at the Round Table

Two weeks ago was our first chat at the "Round Table" This is a place where ordinary people can get together to discuss our favorite subject: FOOD

FOOD – a broad subject, right? We hit on a lot of subjects. We touched vaguely on a couple of national diets. The evils of sugar and the accessibility of junk food was mentioned. Protein, how to use it, what form, and when to consume led to a lengthy discussion. Protein seems to be on people’s minds right now. Maybe that’s what people are buying into? I promised myself to go into this with no intentions. But I must admit, diets really irk me. If someone is offering a no fail, immediate solution, that only they can solve - question their intent. Libraries and advertisements are filled with diet books. Some are written and/or supported by doctors, body builders, and other professionals that enlighten us to what our bodies need to achieve our health goals. Why then, has the obesity rate doubled since 1980? According to the CDC. (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) The obesity rate rose significantly from 33.7 to 39.6% between the years 2008-2018. Coincidentally, have you noticed the rise in cancer rates? There is a direct correlation between the two according to JAMA (the Journal of the American Medical Association)

Diet- 1. The kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats. 2. A special course of food to which one restricts oneself, either to lose weight or for medical reasons Restrictive and regimented plans or diets work.......but only temporarily. Most people fail, only to be left feeling hopeless and deflated. Until the next “new", science- based, amazing, "no fail” diet comes along. Only to renew the cycle....insanity. However, now you have another 10 to lose and less mental energy. I understand these words may sound discouraging to those who rely on a “diet” or cling to another for answers. One of the most valuable lessons learned as a National Board-Certified Health and Wellness coach is, "YOU" are the answer. Motivational interviewing and positive inquiry are tools used to explore and experiment in assisting YOU with your journey to achieving health and wellness goals. Let’s search for real, long term solutions that work for you. There is no right or wrong, good or bad remedy. The key to your success is within you. You are a powerful entity. What TINY goal can you implement into Your lifestyle to make a significant change in your life.

Research and teaching are my favorite ways to learn. So, here’s what I propose: What if we picked a subject of focus each month? We take that month to do research. Pick one pro and one con involving the subject. Then share what you found with the group at the following meeting. Protein was discussed at length earlier. Let's make that our research project for May 2019. Please note the source of information You'll find dates, times, place on my Home page, under "MORE" or Facebook.
